Okay, so I’m gonna share my recent little adventure – trying to find some vintage football jerseys in India. Sounds kinda random, right? Well, lemme tell you how it all went down.

It all started with this crazy idea I had. I’m a sucker for old football shirts, the real old school ones. You know, the ones with the baggy fit and simple designs. I was watching some old matches and just thought, “Man, I gotta get my hands on one of those!” And for some reason, India popped into my head. I figured, with all the football fans there, maybe, just maybe, there’d be some hidden gems tucked away.
First thing I did was hit the internet, obviously. I started googling stuff like “vintage football jerseys India,” “classic football shirts India,” all that jazz. Found a few online stores, but they mostly had the newer stuff, like jerseys from the last 10-15 years. Not exactly what I was looking for. They were too pricey, and I wanted the real deal.
Then I tried something different. I started searching on Indian classifieds sites, like OLX India and Quikr. That’s where things got a little more interesting. I actually found a few listings for what looked like older jerseys, but the pictures were usually terrible, like taken with a potato. Plus, most of the sellers were in really remote areas, which made me a little nervous about sending money and hoping for the best.
I decided to get a bit more specific. I started searching for jerseys from specific clubs and national teams that have a big following in India, like Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Brazil. That actually turned up a few more promising leads. I even found one guy selling a what he claimed was a vintage Brazil jersey from the 90s! Looked legit from the blurry photos, but who knows?
So, I reached out to a few of these sellers. Negotiating was a trip! Some of them were really chill, others were trying to rip me off big time. One guy wanted like 5000 rupees (about $60 USD) for a Man U jersey that looked like it had been through a war. I managed to talk him down a bit, but still, it felt too risky.

After a week or so of searching online, I realized this was gonna be tougher than I thought. I needed to get on the ground, so I started asking around. I have a few friends who have family in India, and I asked them to put me in touch with anyone who might know about vintage clothing or football memorabilia. Luckily, one of them connected me with a guy in Mumbai who runs a small sports shop.
I called him up, and he seemed pretty cool. He said he didn’t specialize in vintage jerseys, but he knew a few people who might. He suggested I come visit his shop and he’d point me in the right direction.
And that’s where I’m at now! I’m planning a trip to Mumbai in the next couple of months. I’m gonna hit up this guy’s shop, see what leads he can give me, and maybe even explore some of the local markets. I’m not expecting to find a goldmine, but who knows? Maybe I’ll stumble across that perfect vintage jersey I’ve been dreaming about. I will keep you updated and share my future findings!
