Then, you gotta find a good one. Not just any beagle or golden will do, oh no. You gotta get one with papers. They tell you who the mama and papa dog were. Fancy dogs, with long names and all. Costs more, you see. ‘Cause they come from good families, like royalty or something. They say that makes ’em better for the entertainment and all that. It is said that a show-quality dog can be quite expensive!

Keep ’em healthy. That costs money, too. And toys! Gotta have toys to keep ’em entertained when they ain’t working. Those fluffy bones and them squeaky things. They sure are happy.
And if you want them to be real stars, you gotta take ’em to them dog shows. That’s where they get seen by them important folks. The ones who put dogs in the moving pictures. You gotta dress ’em up, make ’em look all pretty. More money! New collars, maybe little dog clothes. It is crazy, isn’t it?
These entertainment dogs, they need a lot. They need to learn things, they need to look good, and they need to be healthy. That’s a lot of work! And a lot of money. You gotta really want a star dog to go through all that. Some folks, they just want a dog to cuddle with. That’s fine, too. But if you are going to get a dog as a pet, the cost of dog breeds are all different. And each dog is different, too. Some are quiet, some are loud.

But me, I’m happy with my old mutt. He don’t dance, and he don’t do tricks. But he’s a good dog. And he don’t cost me a fortune. That golden dog, Wonder Dog, they say it was one of the 50 dogs. Can you believe it? 50! That’s a lot of dogs to choose from.
Just remember, them entertainment dogs, they’re a lot of work. And a lot of money. So, if you’re thinking about getting one, you better be ready to open up your wallet. Wide.
