Lots of folks, they want a dog that’s gonna be a star, make ’em some money. Well, I’m here to tell ya, it ain’t that easy. And it sure costs a heap.

First off, you gotta get the right kind of dog. Not just any mutt will do. You want one of them fancy breeds. Like that one, what’s it called? Beagle? Yeah, that’s it. Beagles, they small and cute, folks like that. Then there’s them big fluffy ones, golden… something. Golden Retrievers, that’s them! Big and friendly. They seem to be in a lot of those moving pictures. Or those tiny fluffy ones that fit in your pocket. Those cost a lot, too!
Then, you gotta find a good one. Not just any beagle or golden will do, oh no. You gotta get one with papers. They tell you who the mama and papa dog were. Fancy dogs, with long names and all. Costs more, you see. ‘Cause they come from good families, like royalty or something. They say that makes ’em better for the entertainment and all that. It is said that a show-quality dog can be quite expensive!
- Good breed, like a beagle or golden something
- Papers, showing who the mama and papa were
- Healthy, not sickly or anything
Now, this is where it gets tricky. You gotta train them dogs. And that ain’t cheap either. They don’t just learn to dance and do tricks on their own, you know. You gotta send ’em to school, like them kids. But it’s dog school. And it costs a whole lot more than regular school. It can be 1,000 dollars or even 2,000 dollars! They say it’s cause them teachers are special, know all about making dogs into stars.
You gotta feed ’em good food, too. Not just scraps from the table. Fancy dog food, that costs more than what I eat sometimes! And you gotta take ’em to the vet, get ’em shots and all. Keep ’em healthy. That costs money, too. And toys! Gotta have toys to keep ’em entertained when they ain’t working. Those fluffy bones and them squeaky things. They sure are happy.
And if you want them to be real stars, you gotta take ’em to them dog shows. That’s where they get seen by them important folks. The ones who put dogs in the moving pictures. You gotta dress ’em up, make ’em look all pretty. More money! New collars, maybe little dog clothes. It is crazy, isn’t it?

These entertainment dogs, they need a lot. They need to learn things, they need to look good, and they need to be healthy. That’s a lot of work! And a lot of money. You gotta really want a star dog to go through all that. Some folks, they just want a dog to cuddle with. That’s fine, too. But if you are going to get a dog as a pet, the cost of dog breeds are all different. And each dog is different, too. Some are quiet, some are loud.
- Special dog food, not scraps
- Vet visits, for shots and checkups
- Toys, to keep them busy
- Dog shows, to get them noticed
So, yeah, entertainment dog price, it’s high. Real high. You gotta spend money on the dog, on the training, on the food, on everything! It’s like raising a kid, almost. But a furry, four-legged kid that might end up on the moving picture box. They are best dog breeds for drama, I must say. Maybe it’s worth it, if you got the money. But me, I’m happy with my old mutt. He don’t dance, and he don’t do tricks. But he’s a good dog. And he don’t cost me a fortune. That golden dog, Wonder Dog, they say it was one of the 50 dogs. Can you believe it? 50! That’s a lot of dogs to choose from.
