Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this Rocket League basketball mode, called “Hoops,” and let me tell you, it’s a whole different beast compared to the regular soccer matches. I wanted to share my experience and some things I’ve figured out.

First off, I jumped straight into a few matches. It was chaos! Cars flying everywhere, nobody really knowing what they were doing, me included. Balls were bouncing all over the place, and scoring felt more like luck than skill. I lost. Badly. I realized pretty quickly that my usual Rocket League skills weren’t going to cut it here.
So, I thought, “Alright, let’s break this down.” I went into free-play mode and just started practicing on one of the Hoops maps. The first thing I noticed was that double jumping is key. You gotta use that second jump to get some serious height, especially when the ball is way up in the air. I spent a good chunk of time just practicing my jumps, trying to get a feel for the timing and the angles.
Then, I started working on hitting the ball. It’s not like hitting a soccer ball, where you can just ram into it. In Hoops, you gotta be more precise. I found that tapping the ball with the right momentum is crucial. I tried a bunch of different approaches, and what worked best for me was a quick accelerate followed by a boost, then jump twice while still boosting. This way I can hit almost every shot.
Another thing I realized is that the backboard is your friend. Just like in real basketball, you can use it to bank shots in. I practiced lobbing the ball towards the backboard from different angles, trying to get it to bounce into the hoop. It took a while, but I started to get the hang of it.
Of course, playing solo is one thing, but Hoops is really a team game. I tried to find someone to team up with. Having a teammate you can coordinate with makes a huge difference. We started calling out who was going for the ball, who was staying back on defense, and it made things a lot smoother. Even though I don’t have many friends who play this game, I still managed to find some.

Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
- Double jump: It’s essential for getting height and reaching those high balls.
- Tap, don’t ram: Use gentle taps and momentum to control the ball.
- Boost and jump: A quick accelerate, boost, then double jump is a solid way to hit high shots.
- Use the backboard: Practice those bank shots!
- Team up: Find a buddy to play with and coordinate your moves.
I’m still no pro at Hoops, but I’m definitely getting better. It’s a fun and challenging mode that really tests your aerial skills and teamwork. If you’re looking for something different in Rocket League, give it a try. Just be prepared to practice, and don’t get discouraged if you don’t get it right away. It’s all part of the learning process, and hey, that’s what makes it fun, right?
